B.J. Bull Bakery has been serving authentic Cornish pasties since the 1970s, when it was founded in Los Gatos, California using a cherished family recipe passed down from Cornwall, England. The pasty — a hearty, hand-held pie filled with meat and vegetables — was originally created to feed hardworking miners. That legacy continues today in Elko, Nevada, where the bakery proudly calls itself “The Original Miner Meal.”
For decades, B.J. Bull was a local favorite in Palo Alto, California, known for its flaky crusts, savory fillings, and homemade pies. In 2008, the bakery relocated to Elko — a town with deep mining roots and a natural connection to the pasty’s origins. Located in the heart of town, B.J. Bull has built a loyal following with its traditional beef and potato pasties, local favorites like chile verde, and seasonal treats such as carrot cake and bread pudding.
Still family-run and true to its roots, B.J. Bull Bakery honors tradition while serving up hearty meals that connect past and present — one golden-crusted pasty at a time.

In 2025, B.J. Bull Bakery was purchased by Jeff and Terry Nelson, who aim to carry on the decades old tradition of serving wholesome, delicious pasties and pies to Elko.
Jeff and Terry Nelson have proudly owned the shop since August 2025, continuing a tradition built on hard work and great food. While they’re new owners, Terry is no stranger to the kitchen — she has been making the pies and other desserts here since 2014 and knows firsthand the care and quality that go into every batch.
Together, they’ve dedicated themselves to crafting hearty, soul-warming miner meals that honor hard work and hometown roots. Terry leads the charge in the kitchen, ensuring every pasty, pie, and dessert meets their high standards of flavor and consistency, while Jeff keeps the operation running smoothly with repairs, fresh ideas, and helping wherever needed.
They are grateful to the previous owners, the Dunbars and the Coopers, whose foundation and guidance have set them up for success as they continue to grow the business. Jeff and Terry are proud to feed the miners in their community as well as travelers passing through from the East Coast to the West Coast. Above all, they’re committed to quality, community, and caring for both their customers and their team.
